There are many decisions to make when it comes to planning your wedding day. From my point-of-view, being a newlywed and a hairstylist, my biggest decision was my hairstyle. After all, it's one of the first thing people will notice.
More and more brides are wearing their hair in a way that reflects their personal style and what they are most comfortable with. We are no longer abiding by the "traditional" bridal upstyle. By stepping out of the box, we are opening the door to a whole new world of possibilities where nothing is off limits.
As you start to narrow down your search for the perfect wedding day style, I encourage you to ask yourself a few questions. These will help you get a clear idea of what makes you feel most comfortable and gives your hair professional a good idea of your vision, ensuring you are both on the same page.
1) Would you say your everyday hairstyle is classic, polished and smoothed or messy, textured and soft? (This will help give your hair professional an idea of what technique to use to achieve your personal style into your upstyle.)
2) When you wear your hair in a ponytail, is it placed in the middle, top, or bottom of your head? (This will tell the hair professional where to place your upstyle base, making it most comfortable for you.)
Also, be sure to bring pictures you find while flipping through your bridal magazines. This will help your professional get an even more clear vision of your desired style. It’s important to remember that upstyles are art, and everyone sees art differently, so pictures are a tremendous help.
I also suggest doing a practice upstyle 1-2 weeks before your big day. This gives your professional a chance to see how your hair reacts to different types of curls and styles, and will certainly help eliminate your nerves on your wedding day. Also, bring your jewelry, veil, any hair pieces you are planning to put in your hair and wear a shirt that resembles the top of your dress (ex. if your dress is strapless, wear a tube top). That will help you see the vision all put together.
Scheduling a practice upstyle and makeup application will help eliminate those butterflies and is one more thing you can scratch off your to-do list. Come in, relax and enjoy getting a sneak peek of your beautiful wedding day look.
