Peppermint Patty Manicure and Pedicure: Coming November 23rd!

Our seasonal Peppermint Patty Manicure and Pedicure will do wonders for your skin this holiday season! The alluring aromas of peppermint and chocolate combine to get you in the holiday mood in no time!

The service begins with a chocolate scrub treatment formulated with shea butter. Not only is the chocolate scent a sensory indulgence, it contains over 300 different compounds that can have a significant impact on one’s health and beauty!

Following the scrub is a therapeutic peppermint masque that helps to soothe the skin. This calming and hydrating cream restores the skin’s water lipid layer, increases the amount of nutrients and oxygen in the skin cells, neutralizes free radicals and protects connective tissue.

Waxing 101: What You Need to Know Before Your Next Waxing Service

Summer is finally here-and that means it’s swimsuit season. It’s a popular time for hair removal services and waxing seems to be the go-to method. Before you go in for that waxing appointment, there are a few things you can do to make your experience more pleasant. Whether you are thinking about getting waxed for the first time or a seasoned pro, we have some tips to help make your next waxing service go smoothly (no pun intended.)

1. Be cautious when using prescription medication. Certain prescriptions should be avoided altogether when you plan on getting waxed. These medications can temporarily thin out the skin causing it to lift, which can lead to scabbing. We ask that you disclose any prescription medications you are taking before having a waxing service.

2. Avoid tanning 24 hours before and after waxing-this means both tanning beds and lying out by the pool. Tanning before waxing can cause the skin to lift, as mentioned above. Tanning afterward may cause the skin to burn quickly in the area that was waxed.

3. Hair length is important when waxing the body. The hair should be between ¼ and ½ inch long or be grown out for 2 to 3 weeks. If the hair is too short, the wax will not be able to grab onto it to pull it out. When the hair is too long it can cause
bruising and can be more painful.

4. Certain pain medications and alcohol should be avoided. Although taking a painkiller or having a margarita beforehand may seem like a good idea, they should absolutely be avoided. Alcohol and some pain medications thin the blood which can lead to bruising during waxing.

5. Keep your skin hydrated. Wax loves dry skin – and once it is on -  it does not want to let go. To help make sure the waxing process goes smoothly, it is best to exfoliate skin 24 hours beforehand. Follow with ample moisturizer to ensure the skin is properly hydrated.

The Charles Penzone Event Series Presents: Summer Skincare 101!

On Wednesday, June 27 from 6-9pm,
The Grand Salon in Gahanna/New Albany will host the first event of The Charles Penzone Event Series: Summer Skincare 101! With a focus on skincare, we want you to leave this event with all of the information and products you need to keep your skin looking young and healthy!
                                    
You’re probably wondering how we plan on doing this. Answer: SKIN SCANS!

A skin scan is the perfect way for a professional to analyze your skin by getting a closer look at it. We use a futuristic skin scanning machine (similar to a smaller-version photo booth) to reveal underlying damage on the skin. A skin scan is completely private, and only you and your
esthetician will be able to see the results! 
And, please rest assured – there is no shame
in getting a skin scan!  As estheticians, we
deal with underlying skin issues, too!

How it works:
You place your head inside the machine and
lights will help to reveal any problem areas.
Your esthetician will be able to read these areas
and explain to you what they mean. The coolest part is that a mirror inside the machine allows you to see it too! The lights will reveal underlying damage long before it reaches the surface, such as fine lines, dehydration or sun damage. This way, you can start a targeted plan to get rid of any problem areas before they even appear! How cool is that? Talk about preventative skincare!
